The Goal Of Pilates



Everyone comes to Pilates for their own personal reasons, whether it be to improve general health and fitness, or because they read somewhere that Jennifer Aniston and Miley Cyrus get their sculpted body from Pilates…


Joseph Pilates was very clear about the intention of his method in his writings:


“Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure”

The Pilates method is a system of resistance training designed to strengthen and align your body, with a focus on moving from your body’s center of control (commonly termed the ‘powerhouse’ or ‘girdle of strength’ which includes the abdomen, buttocks, inner thighs and lower back). As such, the method requires a degree of sustained focus, mental discipline, control and coordination.


Everyone can benefit from Pilates, no matter age, body or fitness ability. Joseph Pilates invented many pieces of apparatus that support and challenge the body differently. Our Classically trained instructors are certified in and utilize the entire system of Pilates (not piecemeal i.e. just the Reformer), and progress our clients safely and systematically with many seeing great results.


So to answer the question…Pilates will enhance your life.


Besides the common benefits of exercise (strength, flexibility, improved mood, stress reduction), you’ll also benefit from walking taller, with a lift in your step. You should feel good and energized after your session, not tired and completely sore that you can’t walk the next day.
